ABOUT ME
My name is Kate and I. LOVE. FOOD.
I have always loved cooking and baking, and thanks to my Italian roots, some good genes from my talented Gramma's, my father's cooking and no lie, all those cooking shows he made me watch as a kid- I aspired to create delicious food for people since I was very young.
I worked in the food industry for over 20 years. My first job was in food service, and I learned everything from my boss on how to run a very successful restaurant. I worked in the kitchen, back of the house and front of the house and always enjoyed providing exceptional meals for customers.
But, In 2011, a horrible day came. I found out I had Celiac's disease, and my life would be forever changed.
No more bagels, no more pizza, no more pasta (dio mio!). What was a food lover to do? Sadly, things were rough for a while. I lived off of bland chicken and veggies, in fear of feeling sick once again. Thankfully, with some research though, I was able to eventually find ways to replace my favorite glutenous fare with wheat-free alternatives, and began to experiment in the kitchen.
As time went by, the food industry started to recognize that many other people also suffered the same ailments I did, and started to slowly provide us "gluten free-ers" some decent substitutions. However, things were tricky every time I went out to eat, or went to a cookout or a wedding, I would end up shoving a sandwich on cardboard like gluten free bread in my purse. Just in case. Gluten free food was sometimes an option, but it just never tasted as good. It was crumbly or gritty, and there was a significant difference in the texture, making my ability to love the food I ate and prepared very difficult. I became determined. Determined to create gluten free indulgences that were comparable to the delicious treats all you non-celiac's can enjoy. And then one day, I figured it out. Now I make cupcakes (of course, without the wheat).
In my other life I am a high school teacher. I also love to travel, to eat charcuterie and taste exotic wines. And, I absolutely love creating and baking gluten free cupcakes that don't taste like gluten free cupcakes.
It would be my pleasure to create some delicious wheat-free indulgences for you. If you have Celiac's or are gluten intolerant, trust me, I feel your pain (literally), and I promise you these cupcakes and treats will bring you back to the time when you could eat whatever you wanted. And even if you are not one of us gluten free-ers, you will enjoy these delectable little treats, and believe me, you won't even miss the gluten!
Additional note- I was also cursed with a tree nut allergy, so everything I create is also tree nut free.
